Board Responsibilities
The Planning and Zoning (“P & Z”) Commission consists ofseven voting members and City Council may appoint four alternates. The P &Z Commission makes recommendations to City Council for ordinance amendments inzoning related matters, formulates the City’s overall planning policy regardingfuture development, and advises the City Council on matters concerning theorderly growth of the City. The P & Z Commission reviews specialstudies and is responsible for the preparation and update of the City’sComprehensive Plan in matters relating to the physical development of the City.
In addition, the P & Z Commission reviews subdivisionplats and the vacation and dedication of streets, alleys, easements, and otherpublic facilities associated with plats. This Commission is responsiblefor reviewing and advising the City Council on amendments to subdivision andzoning related ordinances, rezoning requests, annexation proposals, and othermiscellaneous studies. Administrative support is provided to the P & ZCommission by the City’s Community Services Department.
Level of Authority: Recommendations for ordinanceamendments are forwarded to the City Council for consideration. Unlessappealed to the City Council, decisions to deny rezoning property, right-of-wayvacations and dedications, annexation proposals, and miscellaneous studies arefinal.
Term Length: 2 year terms.
